Hi, I'll be up for a weekend in August for the first time to see a series against the Cubs. Does anyone have any advice on best places to stay/eat/drink? I've been checking Hotwire, and the hotels downtown seem pretty expensive. Is it worth it? Am I better off staying in Covington?

Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated.

FYI, I'll be with me 2 brothers (late 20's/early 30's) and my dad, so we're not looking for anything too crazy

I would check Hotels in Northern Ky. There's a lot to do around Newport on the levee, and you can walk to the game. There's also a Hooters near the levee, they have a boat that takes you across the river to the games and picks you back up as well. My first choice would probably be comfort suites, probably the closest... Hope you guys have fun!!

the best advice is to go to cincinnatiusa.com and get the hotel and ticket package- we stayed at the Hilton in Florence Kentucky thru this promotion for less than 80 dollars a night and got 1/2 price tickets all packaged together. if you already have tickets- I still recommend the Hilton in Florence- its a 10 mile drive to the stadium- and you will still get a room for under 100 a night at the most. Then, drive to Newport before the game and park for 5 bucks at the Levee and walk across the bridge to the game. We have been doing it that way for a few years and it works.

As for food - try LaRosa's pizza- great Italian chain in the area and Montgomery Inn is always good if you like ribs- though it is expensive.

Agree... stay in Northern Kentucky. It's not a difficult trip across the river. You can walk or ride a river taxi to the ballpark.

If not bringing kids... Lawrenceburg, IN has a casino and it is only about a 25 to 30 minute drive from downtown.

The Hofbrau Haus Newport offers German beer and food. Beer brewed right on spot.

You said the magic word Beer!
Morlein Lager House is right across the street from the ball park. Good food good beer!
Along with the Hoffbrau house a must stop if you are a beer lover!
Nicholsans downtown Cincy is also nice.
Typically it is hot and humid here in August!

You are most certainly correct.... if I remember correctly there are 20 beers on tap (10 of their own brew and 10 from other breweries). Try the Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale on tap there.... it is AWESOME! That hint of bourbon in the beer is really good!

With a name like Skippy, sounds like you probably buy them a milkshake at Mickey D's instead of an adult beverage at the ball park or bar.

I second the Hofbrahaus. Good stuff there. Get the Newport sampler and a liter of Dunkel. You will not leave disappointed.

I stayed Downtown during my last trip. Slightly over 100 bucks a night, but I felt the extra cost was worth it being in walking distance of all the stuff we wanted to do. YMMV.

I would suggest checking out the Embassy Suites in Covington. Heard they give free beer on game days and a shuttle to the game. Moerlien House is also a good time and lots of Cubby fans hang out there I heard. Make sure to check out the Montgomery Inn Boathouse and have some cincy style chili.

I third Hofbrahaus. Morlein on game day is a joke (nice play though).

The Westin is a good place to stay and is the closest hotel to the park. Also there are a lot of good places to eat at near there. The Westin is not cheap thou, I think for my wife and I it is around 220 per night if i remember correctly. The away team also stays at the westin as well.

Thanks for all the great suggestions. I'm still having trouble finding a decent hotel under $150 in downtown Cincy or across the river. I'm a bit surprised how expensive the hotels are!

Does anyone know any Promo codes for tickets to the Reds games? I know there is a yelp site for my beloved White Sox where everyone shares promo codes. Anything similar for Reds fans?
