I poured myself a glass of Flavor Aid this afternoon, and then ruminated on your post.
DON'T WORRY (about the Padres). BE HAPPY (that we have a professional team). {Sarcasm key on}
Like last season, the Padres always start slow in April, May, June. But come the All-Star break, they'll play like the best team in baseball until the end of the season. If you close one eye and squint at the stats, and pretend that a baseball season is only three months long, you'll have something to be optimistic about when they finish 10 or 15 games below .500 and in 4th or 5th place in the NL West. You can be the first to start the "Optimism for 2014" or "Prospects 2014" threads next year. The buzz will start all over again.
The Padres will no-doubt qualify for a high round draft pick during the off-season.
The Padres will quietly continue to rebuild, rebuild, rebuild, giving you hope, wishful thinking, and optimism that they'll someday dig themselves out of the hole they've made for themselves and become competitive with their rivals.
Or not.
One thing you can bet on....the Padres are not going to sign all-star talented veterans. If the farm doesn't generate the talent on the field, the future is bleak.
