    • What the heck---One Trade,One Roster move to improve

approach Minnesota about Glen Perkins and Ryan Doumit (both of whom have reasonable contracts for the next 2-3 years)....they need starting pitching,we'd be taking some salary off their hands....Perkins has been very effective in the pen and Doumit upgrades us offensively at a position of minimal offensive contribution for us.....

i'd offer some combination of Gee,Edgin,Turner or Marte...they'd be getting a starter, starting second baseman they'd have control over, plus Edgin who could replace Perkins over the next year or so

roster move would be to bring up Matt Harvey,he appears to be ready and has pitched well in a number of his most recent starts

(other relievers i'd take a look at would be Matt Belisle from Colorado and Brayan Villareal from the Tigers,Detroit is desperate for starting pitching and is in wild card race....)

just an idea

Dude! The Wilpons are not going to add pay roll. Just cross your fingers and hope the Wilpons don't cut pay roll and leave it as is. Maybe SA a can get creative and bring some players here without bumping the pay roll.

I love the idea - it really would be a perfect fit for us - but considering they recently gave both players extensions (Perkins in March, Doumit just yesterday), I imagine we'd have to offer something EXTREMELY attractive. Don't know that Gee qualifies.

i hear you,but Perkins makes what Rauch makes(he won't be back) and with Torres and Pelfrey off the books next year adding Perkins and Doumit won't be much....this 1/2 season we might be adding 3-3.5 million at the deadline, that's all

well we might have to "tweak" the deal i guess,i was just putting out what i think would be fair, but you're right we may have to overpay somewhat.....while they just extended Doumit he is their backup catcher and Gee would be an inexpensive 4th or 5th starter for them

but, yeah,i see Minnesota,Detroit, or Colorado as being good fits for us

adding Doumit with any kind of second half improvement from Ike,plus having Tejada from the right side plus anything we get from Bay might be enough of an offensive improvement

Parnell,Perkins,Frank as a base 7th,8th,9th

and importantly Doumit and Perkins wouldn't be rentals

I hear you guy but the magic word here is 'ADDING'. That word alone will send the Wilpons to the ER. HEY! Not a bad idea!

geez,if the Wilpons can't even add 3.5 million at the deadline we're in trouble....

It does look like Doumit is playing every day though. I guess he's DH'ing half the time, catching the rest. And the other thing is they apparently expect Perkins to take over as closer once Capps is either dealt or becomes a FA at the end of the season.

Gee is proving to be pretty solid and would be under control for them longer so maybe that is indeed enough as a centerpiece for a deal. It's certainly something we should explore.

they have a guy Burton who's closing now and has been very solid.....Doumit probably has been DH'ing and also played a few games in the outfield

i have nothing against Gee but i'm not sure if he's part of our long term plans....the Twins are possibly losing Liriano and Pavano to FA and might need starting help

we might be able to offer the same package for Detroit's Villareal plus but i don't know if they have any available hitting upgrades for us....

Baltimore is starter depleted and bullpen rich....maybe we package Hairston and Gee for a couple of relievers?

We were in trouble when Doubleday handed over the day to day baseball operations to Freddy boy after the 86 season. Why do you think we haven't won since.

not a bad idea actually, but i would take turner out of the deal, they can have marte. i dont like doumit that much, but he can hit a bit, and play other positions. i think he just signed an extension though. i will miss gee, but harvey and wheeler are eventually going to claim spots so seeing what you can get for gee make sense. i would call toronto about darnaud first. but i doubt they deal him. make the call all the same.if we offer them gee and familia (or mejjia) for darnaud maybe they bite. but then, sandy used his 2nd pick this yr on a catcher so this is unlikely. i think we might get someone like grant balfour, and thats probably it. you get an A for original thinking, perkins would be awesome. twins wont trade him, but your idea of adding edgin makes it plausible. the reality is the mets will give edgin a shot before he is traded.

trying to match up what we have that other teams might need....i think i mentioned above something about a package of Gee and Hairston to the O's who are reliever rich but starter poor and in need of some offense..they're getting virtually nothing from second base from Roberts so maybe Gee and Turner for a solid reliever and prospect?

after Verlander the Tigers starters are pretty horrendous and they've got a number of good relievers too....

plus D'Arnaud tore his posterior cruciate ligament in one of his knees and is out 6-8 weeks, and being he's a catcher maybe longer than that

It's been brought up here before and I will say again: stay away from Doumit. Last thing this team needs is another DH. Doumit is not a good catcher, and he would look like swiss cheese trying to corral Dickey's knuckler. Yes, he can hit and hit with power but his glove is plain iron.

one of the sad issues is if Doumit is a catcher with a mitt of iron who can hit he's better than anything we have in our system.....our best option in-system is the tandem of Nickeas and Thole...we don't have much all the way down to probably Blake Forsythe at St. Lucie and then Camden Maron at Savannah, neither of which appears to be separating themselves from being an average prospect at best

catching is at a premium such that Doumit even though he's only the backup for Mauer may not be available....

outfielders we have, outfield and infield prospects we have, what we don't have is catching

Doumit may not be perfect but his 33 rbis sure look better than 9

and as a result of this deal we'd still have Thole to catch Dickey if that's the best scenario

I like Ryan alot, but he definately has his faults. Defense is not his strong suit. Anywhere you put him; catcher, first, left, it's all bad.

Problem is I can't make any valid arguments to yours. You make valid points.

why would twins trade doumit when they just signed him to a 2 year extension yesterday. he can play multiple positions and will get more time at catcher as mauer gets a little less.
