Was this the PTBNL that was suppose to be a key part?

Luhnow never said he was to be a key part of the deal.

You might be thinking of the trade earlier in the year with the Royals when he said that.

No, Luhnow did recently say that about the Myers trade as well.

I also found this guys: www.chicagonow.com/future-sox/2011/06/futuresox-draft-tracker-2011/

"BA says he fit in the 5th-15th rounds, which probably means he is a tough sign. Low 90s fastball with slider and change."

I kind of like it. More pitching depth. The question is whether they'll keep trying him as a starter.

Just a thought, in the latest TCB podcast, they talked about how Luhnow and his regime is a believer in the long toss regimen and it could help explain Nitro's velocity bump this year. When you also look at some of the other prospects we got this year, namely Wojciechowski and Musgrove, you see some pitchers who used to be very highly regarded, but suffered from velocity dips in pro ball. Could be they're buying low on these types of guys and hoping the velocity picks back up with new workout regimens ala Tropeano. Devenski is a guy who hit mid-90's in college, if he can get up to that range as a starter in pro ball, with the solid control he's shown so far, he could be very interesting.

If he did he needs to cut out the snow job.

What snow job? He has been very candid about what he is doing and how long it is going to take.

Part of his job is to give hope that some of these guys he's traded for will work out. It's a numbers game.

i will be delighted - surprised but delighted - if 3 of these guys become league average.

3 lol? I will be surprised if at least three don't become league average. We got at least two arms who should become league average in the BP at least. I also think we got an OF guy who will be league average. Time will tell but I will be shocked if we don't have at least three become solid big league players. Maybe not stars but solid/league average.

He didn't say it was going to be a spectacular prospect, but simply a key piece in the deal. I take that to mean he's at least as high, or maybe a little higher, on this guy than the other two. I think reading anything more than that into it is going a little overboard.

I agree with Ash on this one. Key piece of the trade means a prospect that both teams value, but hasn't been decided yet. It doesn't mean they were giving up Alex Rios but just weren't telling us.

I'm fine with that prospect. I've been fine with all of them. The truth is we don't know how any of them are going to do. As someone mentioned earlier, Luhnow was very open about how long and hard this rebuild is going to be. We can't undo ten years of Uncle D's damage to the farm system in one season.

Then you have fallen for the snow job. A PTBNL is just a throw in to tie up the financial odds and ends. Do you really believe he thought a guy who couldn't get out of extended spring training was a key part of the earlier trade? Good grief - how bad were the other choices.

I also wonder why a GM would do a deal if he wasn't even sure he would get one of the "key" pieces?

" Key piece of the trade means a prospect that both teams value, but hasn't been decided yet."

If the other team valued them very much they wouldn't be throwing them in a group and saying here, take your pick. GMs don't make trades and then wait to see who the key pieces were.

Domingo Santana is your idea of a throw in?

"Do you really believe he thought a guy who couldn't get out of extended spring training was a key part of the earlier trade?"

D'Andre Toney? He hit .340 in 38 games with the Royals Arizona League team last year. That's not extended spring training.

What makes you think he wasn't?

"D'Andre Toney? He hit .340 in 38 games with the Royals Arizona League team last year. That's not extended spring training."

Here we go again. What the f--k does last year have to do with when we got him.

It can definitely be someone the better team values. Doesn't mean they have to give up their best AAA guy, just a prospect of some value. Just as no GM throws good players into a trade group, our GM doesn't give up someone the other team wants without getting something in return.
