He declined to come out and pitch a 3rd inning, because he wants to be a starter. This should get interesting.

Oswalt's scoreless relief00:00:558/5/12: Roy Oswalt dominates over two shutout innings of relief, holding the Royals hitless while recording four strikeouts

"KANSAS CITY -- Roy Oswalt made his second appearance as a reliever for the Rangers on Sunday. The Rangers don't know if there will be a third one. Oswalt's situation has become murky after what happened at Kauffman Stadium.

Oswalt pitched two scoreless innings in the Rangers' 7-6 loss in 10 innings to the Royals. With the score tied at 6, he set down the side in order in the seventh and eighth innings while throwing only 30 pitches.

The Rangers wanted Oswalt to keep pitching. He declined to do so.

"He said he couldn't go any further," manager Ron Washington said. "He said he had enough."

Oswalt was moved to the bullpen after six starts when the Rangers acquired Ryan Dempster from the Cubs on Tuesday. Oswalt made it clear to the Rangers that he didn't want to pitch in relief. The Rangers still made the decision because Scott Feldman had won six straight while Oswalt was 3-2 with a 6.49 ERA in his six starts.

Oswalt was not available after the game to discuss his situation. The Rangers open a three-game series with the Red Sox on Monday in Boston. What happens next will be up to Oswalt, or general manager Jon Daniels may have to resolve the issue."

This sounds overblown to me. Oswalt was just moved to the bullpen. 2 innings is about as much as relievers are asked for, especially guys not used to preparing quickly and entering games with much less warmup and prep than they get as starters. Managers are always asking guys if they are alright, and if they feel like they can go another inning.
Oswalt admitted he was gassed. Most managers would appreciate the truth, rather than send a tired pitcher out to get shelled.

This sounds like some writer is trying to create a controversy where there isn't one.

Well, he did decline to pitch a 3rd inning so, I don't think it's a writer trying to stir things up. Oswalt made it very clear that he wasn't interested in a relief role on any team before he signed with the Rangers. No one really seems to know why he wouldn't pitch but, his comments since he was put in the BP sure indicated he wasn't happy with it.

I don't think this will be allowed to fester. Something will happen quickly to finalize what he will be doing moving forward.

The sad part is, he looked fantastic coming out of the pen yesterday.

I hope they put in him in the pen and forget him.
I don't see Nolan Ryan putting up with a guy like that.

I bet Scioscia is behind this. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Scioscia isn't smart enough to guide his own team, much less sabotage a rival..

Weaver 15-1. If only Scioscia could get the Angels to play.500 ball when Weavers not pitching. Not really that much to ask for.

And if Scioscia was the tyrant you have proclaimed him to be, Weaver would have signed with another team.

Yes, you're right... if only Scioscia wouldn't tell his guys to dog it when Weave's not pitching we would have a much better record.

Even you could win as a manager, when Weaver is pitching. That's not saying much, I would like the Angels to Win , I'm tired of Scioscia's excuses. He never puts the blame on himself.

The majority of pitchers don't want to be removed from the game. Obviously, Oswalt is one of those that simply doesn't care. I'm not sure I would rely on a person like that to come through when the chips are down.

" That's not saying much..."

You're absolutely right, bob... as with most everything you write.
