Who would you rather see gone at the deadline, Haren or Santana?

I have heard on the radio that the Angels only have six major league quality starters in their organization, so the Angels could not afford to trade either one, no matter how many poor starts they have.

I thought Trevor Bell had big league potential, but apparently he is not considered to be major factor in the Angels' future.

None. In the playoffs you need pitching.

Neither unless we can get a quality starter in return, Angels need the extra pitcher in case of injury or slumps.

We could use an improvement over Haren but there isn't much available now that Oswalt is in Texas. I suppose that money is also tighter after getting our $240,000,000 .190 batter.

The Angels were on the verge to signing Oswalt, but the noodle head decided to join the rangers over the Angels. More the reason to hate him now!

That's right. Oswalt held out almost half of the season for the most money and for the Rangers. He lives in Louisiana and wanted to be near there.

I'd rather see stupid fans gone.

Haren (5-7) has a lower ERA and WHIP than Ivan Nova (9-2), lower ERA and similar WHIP to Ricky Romero (8-1) and more than a full run lower ERA and .2 lower WHIP than Clay Buchholz (8-2).

Haren ain't goin' anywhere but out to the hill for his next scheduled start.

< Haren ain't goin' anywhere but out to the hill for his next scheduled start. >

Doesn't it seem that even if you finally convince someone that their ideas are unrealistic that there always seems to be another one to take their place?

I tried to warn everyone there would be consequences with the departure of Jeff Mathis, as some pitchers did better with Mathis behind the plate. Dan Haren was one of them. The only catcher Haren is even decently responding to on the Angels now is Bobby Wilson, and he allowed 5 runs in the first two innings last night with him behind the plate.

I think it's another reason to get Conger behind the plate, as the younger players are responding to him (IE, Richards).

I look at your numbers and the one thing that seems to "jump out at me" is that Haren seems to do better with whatever catcher he has the most IP with. To me this appears to be more of a "familiarity" thing more than anything else. In other words, it doesn't matter who the catcher is as long as Haren "knows his game". It would be interesting to see if this trend is apparent with the other pitchers as well.

Wilson has caught Haren most of the time this year, and has pitched well with ONLY Wilson.

What I think it points out is to why these millionaires can't adjust to whomever is catching them, and why these catchers can't adjust to whomever they are catching.

It's not just familarity. I'm crunching the numbers, and familarity isn't showing a definite trend. Nobody is coming close to what Haren did with Mathis catching.

I'm not sure what you are saying, is it that the Angels should not have jettisoned Jeff Mathis? If so, I vehemently disagree. Mathis is the worst hitting position player in the history of baseball with over 1000 AB, most players that bad are not in the major leagues long enough to accrue that many ABs. No matter how "great" his defensive skills are it can't justify him being in a major league lineup.

This is starting to get annoyingly funny... Santana struggles he needs to be traded, then throws a 1 hitter. Williams struggles one game after a gem at Dodger stadium and needs to be traded. Then Finally Heran has a bad 3 innings then shuts down one of the best teams in baseball the next 4 innings.

You guys are funny, Richards is gonna have a bad game and you guys will say "why is he up here"... Wilson will have a bad game then "why did we sign this bum". Last but not least Weaver struggles and then "maybe hes not the ace".

Players have bad games get over it and just enjoy that the Angels are one of the hottest teams in baseball. They are called slumps and they can get over, Aybar is, Kendrick did, and Puljos managed it as well.

Neither. They'll figure it out. Why panic?

So easy to say trade. Who can we replace either with? Who is available in our system? Who is available via trade?

We're still in this race. Win as many series as we can and we'll be fine.

Try checking Haren's actual game logs this season and stop making it sound as though he's only had a bad game or two.

In case your math needs help, Haren's ERA for last night's game was 9.00.

He's started 15 games this season. Out of those 15 starts, six have been good or very good, one was so-so (game ERA of 4.05).

Seven okay starts, eight very bad starts.

No, I'm not saying that. But, it's not like Wilson is hitting any better then Mathis did.
