    • Time to remove Nova from rotation?

I personally like Nova. He just stinks right now.

When CC gets activated, I'd leave Phelps in and take out Nova and see what happens. Worst case scenario is if it doesnt work, put Nova back into rotation.

Worth a shot?

Absolutely agree. Phelps in, Nova out. If Crashman does not acquire a SP before 8/31 somehow and have another LH available for pen, this years stretch run and possibly playoffs not looking so good. (ie: another first round exit)

Couldn't agree more. Phelps needs to stay in rotation and take Nova's place. When Andy gets back Garcia needs to go.

If Nova is not removed, there are some serious issue with the managing, such as a lack of priority to win. Nova gives us little chance to win.

you know nova is pitching really bad when you got people choosing HRughes over him... is sad because i like him a lot but he's being more volatile than phil. with cc's activation the most logic rotation is...

CC
Kuroda
HRughes
Phelps
Garcia(until andy comeback)

Agree. Nova should be sent back to the minors and Phelps put in. Who knows? It can scare Nova and he can get his head out of his butt.

Nope. When CC comes back then Garcia comes out. Andy comes back then Nova will come out, but not until Andy's back.

That makes absolutely zero sense.

Nova went 16-4 with a 3.70 ERA in his first full year as a starter for the Yankees. He's just 25 years old and despite pitching awful he's still 11-7. He's a big part of their future and they aren't going to give up on him. They want him in the rotation for years to come. So, they're going to give him the opportunities to work out his problems and get it figured out as a starter right now.

Freddy is not all that great, he has his good and bad. He's not good enough that they're going to give those starts to him over Nova.

It's not like they're favoring Nova over another young pitcher looking for opportunity. Notice I said Garcia first then Nova. Phelps will still stay over Nova. They're going to need to make room for Pettitte at that point and then it will have to be Nova.

That's how it makes sense for the Yankees organization. I'm sure this is what will be done if they're put in this situation.

Sending him down is not giving up on him. It's giving him a chance to figure his issue out while we can continue to compete for the pennant. Freddy has been just fine since taking over the spot.

Such a decision would not give us the best chance to win in a tight race, and that's my problem.

That can be done in the minors. He was sent down last year and when he came back he was lights out! My question is, Y Can't Rothchild figure out what has gone wrong with him? That's his job, isn't it? U R Rite, he is young, and perhaps a slap in the face wil;l wake him up. Whatever, something has to be done. He can't be kept sending him out and accept the loss. The race is to close.

The minor-league seasons is just about over at this point. They aren't going to demote him so that he has one start down there.

There's not that many starts for him left this year in the bigs anyway but they'll still leave him in the rotation and give him as many starts to work out his problems. When Andy comes back then they won't have much of a choice but until then he'll be in the rotation getting these last few starts in the major leagues. They wouldn't leave in Garcia to remove Nova, that would make little sense and be a bad move for the organization.

The minor league season is just about finished. Check my above post.

Freddy is not much better than Nova either way. For a few starts it won't make much difference, especially if Nova can figure something out and finish the year feeling good.

Since when is Phelps is the next best thing since sliced break. I love that the assumption is Phelps is going to be a lock down starter and Nova is now all the sudden scrapped meat.

I agree wtih you that Nova stays in, and I think he stays in even when Andy comes back. Phelps is still way too much of a question mark due to his limited experience. Nova is going through a rough patch overall in the second half although hes mixed in some good starts as well in the second half.

Nova will be there all season IMO, and may end up being the #4 starter in the playoffs.

That's a pretty scary thought to keep Nova in, no? That on its own might cost us the division if he continues to be poor.

Nova is trash this year and he does not deserve to be the number 4 starter

That's laughable when Hughes has been better than that scrub Nova this year

Nova was scouted to be:

POSSIBLY a back end rotation starter

Nothing special, he is trash. Hughes > Nova

You do realize that if Nova is taken out of the rotation that means Garcia is in the rotation until Pettite gets back. I don't trust Nova as far as I can throw him. But everytime Freddy Garcia starts I'm sitting on pins and needles hoping he doesn't implode to the point that he doesn't give a chance 2 win.

Why not. Right now Phelps is performing better than Nova.

Go look at Nova's game logs this season. He is either very good or very bad in any given start. Not sure what is happening in the games where he implodes, but I think it is very off base to call him trash. Considering the options, I am completely fine with him in the rotation

This year he has had 12 very good starts (2 ER or less) 9 very bad starts (5 or more ER) and 4 average starts (3-4 ER).

Far from being TRASH. Far from being GREAT as well. Its somewhere in between, which is exactly what a #4/5 pitcher in the rotation is
